I need help with saving and reloading FCW177 coding sets in DTS Monaco 8.16.
The reason is that I am trying to activate Distronic Pro, which requires reloading the coding set from a backup.

When I started programming a couple of months ago, I saved a "complete vehicle coding" as a backup in case I messed something up.
So I thought that before messing around with coding for Distronic Pro, it would be wise to test the Variant Codings I needed and load my original coding sets into "simulation mode" for practice.

When loading a saved set of codings, the following error occurs:

Code:
The ECU Variant FCW177_Appl_008507 of the codings set does not match the ECUVariant currently used! Do you want to load the coding set anyway?

After loading I get:

Code:
Following domains have the wrong length:
- Function Details SDTR
- Function CPA
- HU_Delivery_Settings_CPA
- Vehicle Parameters

As expected!

I tried with two different FCW177 files:

- 29/05/2018 (Revision 00.12.15 – Server Version 8.13.026), I used this one when I saved the codings
- 16/01/2020 (Revision 00.13.03 – Server Version 8.15.023)

Those are the only ones available to me.
Is this because I'm in "simulation mode" on DTS or do I need a newer FCW177.smr-d file?
Can anyone provide a newer/correct FCW177 file?

If the coding for these domains is available when connecting to the car, can I manually copy the HEX values into a text file and paste/recode back (as a backup)?
I'm a bit cautious as I know that if I mess up the FCW177 coding sets when saving, I'll need online coding or Mercedes service, which is quite expensive.
Car: W177 Premium AMG, late 2018.
Thanks in advance.

PS. I've coded the usual AMG stuff, fuel flap, driving modes, etc. So I know a little bit about coding, but I'm still a newbie.
I promise that if anyone is interested, I will publish the Distronic Pro procedure as soon as everything goes well.

Quick update!

I used the SMR-D files from XENTRY 2024 and everything went smoothly.
For some reason I had some calibration issues at first when I tried to run the calibration in XENTRY.

After locking and restarting the car, the calibration was completed within 5 minutes (under adaptation in XENTRY).
I will try to publish the guide early next week.

If anyone needs help, write, I will be glad to help!
The FCW177.smr-d file is not needed.

When backing up codings they will only work for that project file, sometimes SMR-D projects can be engineering and contain more domains or other parameters.

Sometimes MB also changes them in different MB_PKW folders in Xentry for each version. Usually a newer version of SMR-D has more software versions available (for example, old BR_177 projects are not the latest IC177 versions, so I had to use the version from Xentry on my car).

When using the simulation mode, when inserting backup codings, you must switch it to offline mode and select the version of the control module.
There is a small radio button "Default (offline)" and then under the ECU you will find all supported control module versions for this SMR-D :)

Thanks for the detailed explanation.
Yes, I realized that "Default (Offline)" is in simulation mode, I checked and everything works fine.
I was confident enough that everything was fine so I did the coding yesterday and everything went fine.
I saved FCW177 before resetting the ECU and coded it without any problems!
However, this is very useful information for other newbies like me!
