Is it possible to clear permanent codes using factory software? I have a MIL that won't go away even though the code shows "Stored" status.

Yes, it works with factory software.

Thank you, do you know this process? It seems that no matter how long you drive, the light does not turn off.

If the error is corrected, the light goes out after a certain number of kilometers.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I don't drive enough for it to go out.

Clearing codes the normal way doesn't reset the process, does it? It would be great if there was a way to see what stage of the process the ECU is at so I could know how much more work I need to do.

Yes, you can permanently erase the codes by taking the car to a tuner who will read the ECU flash memory, clear the previously read codes and rewrite the modified flash memory with permanently disabled codes into the ECU.

I doubt I can do this for a road car. I need to do it one last time and then it won't matter because I'm moving to an area that doesn't test. Considering all I spent on diagnostic equipment, I'm surprised I don't have this option yet. I was going to buy something like HP Tuners, but my car isn't supported.

Did you try to disconnect car battery (that could reset your car infotainment) after the problem causing MIL was fixed. After driving 30-70 km and/or 20-40 engine start-stop cycles, the light can be reset.

In new cars some control units have shadow RAM. I remember this in EIS222 when my head memory was correct.

I had a situation with the MR1 ECU, which showed an error at about 100,000 km (the error first appeared at about 10,000 km, something was wrong with some injector), now at 115,000 km it appears again and again. I don't have a car here, so I wonder if the same mysterious shadow RAM is at work there.

By the way, it was not possible to fix this error in MR1 using Xentry. With the DTS Monaco everything seemed to work and once the car started everything was great. But after some time the problem came back again (without active MIL).

I work on the bench setup and have already managed to correspond with EIS222 and IC222 simultaneously, I'll include CRD3 in the setup next weekend. Maybe I will find more information about it there and write about it.
