Recently my Renault Zoe started making a rattling noise (apparently coming from the PRND gear selector area) when reversing after the car was parked in "P" (on a slight slope) without the handbrake applied.

Does anyone know what the cause might be and how to fix it?

Have you found the reason yet? My Zoe has the same problem.
Sometimes my car gets stuck if it is parked on a hill without the handbrake. Then I need to push the car a little to release "P". I don't know if these problems are related.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to fix the problem yet.
In my case, I do not have the problem of the car getting stuck in the "P" position that you are talking about.
Does your PRND gear selector also make a rattling sound?

Yes, it makes a rattling noise. Almost every time it parks on a slope without the handbrake. About the first five meters, after which the noise disappears. Sometimes the "P" gets stuck, only on a higher slope.
I was trying to find a picture of the transmission lock lever.
Just like if the lock lever was too close and hit the gear before it returned to its place. The vibration could be transmitted through the wire to the selector, creating a rattling sound. I don't know.

When the gearshift lever is moved to the "P" position or the door is opened, the ZE20/40 shall be equipped with a mechanical parking pin which is automatically engaged to prevent unintentional vehicle movement in the event of driver inattention.
In newer models, they have removed this completely and now it relies solely on the handbrake. There is a chance that on a slope, the parking pin will be under tension and will not be able to disengage. Repeating this behavior can cause the parking lock to recalibrate and eventually it will also start not engaging.
If I'm not mistaken, there should be a manual switch under the plastic cover.

In some cases this part is a component of the immobilizer (I don't know about Renault), so replacing the part can be a difficult task.
Could you please tell me the exact model of your ZOE?
