Good day everyone, my Sprinter doesn't want to shift gears. I have already replaced the shift module but it still won't shift gears. Does anyone know more about this?

Can you tell me the year/model of your Sprinter? What fault codes did you have before replacing the module? What module do you define as a "shift module"? Do you mean the conductive plate inside the transmission? Transmission module under the seat? Or a gear shift lever?

This is for a Sprinter 2020 with the OM651 engine. I have a module under the gearbox so if you open the gearbox oil pan it's this module and the problem is if you put it in "D" it won't go and will give errors like internal gearbox errors.

I worked on the car again today, but it still doesn't work. Do you think I need a new gearbox?

I think I have the same transmission (Sprinter 2019). Can you tell me why you changed the module? Did it just stop working or was it because the transmission fluid was changed or something like that?

I had a similar problem on the E-Class 250 CDI W211. In the workshop of a colleague they replaced the box together with the module, but it did not help. These modules are not programmable, once the VIN number of the car is recorded it is almost impossible to change it. Therefore, if a fault is detected in the gear module, it will have to be repaired in a specialized workshop. There is a company in England that only repairs such modules, and it is not very expensive. Or you will have to buy a new one and then go to a Mercedes dealer to have it programmed using the data from the old one.

Hello everyone, if you are replacing the module in your Mercedes Sprinter, it is perfectly clear and normal that coding is necessary. The module like VGS Nag XX gearbox belongs to the safety components, which also include the Engine Module and the Electronic Key (i.e., the steering lock) ESL/EZS. This means that these 3 components must interact together. If this is not the case, as it is with you, if you have changed the module in the gearbox, coding is necessary, which is the reason why you cannot Drive the car.

If you have the old module, you can try to read the data from it with the cheapest Tool called CGDI for Mercedes, which costs around €600 search in Google (of course, the original Abrites for Mercedes is much better and 20 times more expensive), and transfer the same data to the new module installed in the gearbox. For this type of work, you must first directly connect the interface to the old module, read the data (CGDI has a ready-made connector for the gearbox, but it is purchased separately), and then lift the car, disconnect the battery from the car, and now connect the new module in the gearbox and transfer the data with CGDI. If you do this, the car's electronics will notice that it is the old module (but it is physically new), and the car will work normally again. This solution has been known for a long time; unfortunately, it is not possible with Vediamo or similar.

If you do not have the old module, there is no possibility, and you must go to an authorized Mercedes workshop for coding...
