Disable your antivirus. Install the latest VCDS software (mark 32-bit on a 64-bit system). Install this loader. Create exceptions in your antivirus, otherwise it will be deleted the next time you start the system. Launch the loader, select the VCDS path, wait for the cable firmware update to complete, the program will start. Go to settings, check the USB port (if the cable is detected), save and enjoy!

Yes, if there is an STM4xx inside. For cheap Atmega162 chip you need to use different version.

I'm thinking about using the Scanmatik 2 Pro with VCDS software and was wondering if anyone has experience using this combination. Is Scanmatik 2 Pro compatible with VCDS? If so, could you give recommendations on how to set it up correctly?

VCDS and Scanmatik 2 Pro are two different things.
Separate hardware is required to run the VCDS software. I don't think both are compatible. VCDS is also only for VAG vehicles. You can buy a clone which is cheaper and works great, but if you need professional help from Ross-Tech, I would suggest buying the original.
I have both the Original Hex-net and a clone of this wonderful device for VAG cars.
