Hello all. My W166, 2016. I have vibrations starting at 120KMH, worse at 130KMH, and over 140KMH a bit better.
All wheels were tested and aligned. Not from the wheels.
I suspect the torque converter.
Any ideas on what to check?
Thanks.

With faults that are heavily dependent on the speed it most likely comes down to the wheels or tires. Check if there are any dents or buckles in the wheels or any repaired punctures in the tires.

The speeds you are indicating suggest to me that the problem is located in the rear tires or wheels rather than fronts.

What you can do to check this is to exchange the rear wheels with the fronts and drive the car. If the vibrations start at approximately 85KMH then that would suggest that the wheels on the front are the issue. Normally wheel wobble at approx 85KMH means it is in the front and 120KMH+ is in the rear.

You probably have a deformed tread on some tire.

Hello. Oddly enough, I had a similar problem after replacing the brake pads. I changed not the discs but the pads and everything went away.

ON 120KMH wheels always make problem, poor balancing or rims deformed.

Had a similar problem a few years ago with my W209, all wheels, rims and steering aligned, vibration came from the control arms and tie rods. Changed both and everything went away.

Makes a lot of sense.
Two shops tried aligning the wheels and succeeded. But said that they suspect the Chinese wheels.
I will source used 20" wheels and will update.

Did change, didn't work.

W209 tie rods are a common cause, they're weaker than the previous generations for some reason.

It is a W166. No harm in replacing those, just got a pair from Amazon.

Having the tires balanced is not good for the chassis in the long run, but if the tires are bad or cheap tires you may not be able to get them balanced. If rims have been painted and a lot of metal has been removed, it could also be that the rim is defective.
