Hello everyone. I have a problem with my VW Golf 5. When I turn the wheels all the way to the left, I hear a scratching noise. The suspension has already been replaced. What could be the issue?

I also had this problem with Golf 4.
The problem was with the power steering pump. Either the oil has run out or it is defective.
Check the fluids first. If it's really old oil, replace it. If this doesn't help, you may need to replace the power steering pump.

If this happens when actively turning the wheels, then it will be the power steering, as mentioned earlier, or the entire steering comb, the same problem on the Audi A4 :)

Check the steering rack to make sure the threads are the same on both sides. I have seen one case where it was rubbing and the rack moved one turn but was still aligned. Also, recording the sound always helps diagnose.

Check the brake dust shield. I had this problem before.

I believe the Golf MK5 has MacPherson Strut suspension. If the above solutions do not work, you should check the strut mount, if there is a bearing in the mount, try replacing the grease after opening the bearing. I already had this problem with the Octavia MK2 (IZ3), which is based on the same platform as the Golf MK5.

Have you checked the wheel liner? If work was done, they may not have aligned it correctly, causing it to hit the body.

1. Check the brake pump or brake pads
2. Direction machine ball cage

A grinding noise when turning the steering wheel all the way to the left may be a sign of CV joint wear.

When turning left, noise is heard from the bearing of the drive shaft on the right (CV joint), breakage or dried grease inside the CV joint boot, if it is connected with an overlap.
