I've had the W238 2018 for over a year now and work in tech. I was wondering if anyone has heard of a 3G module upgrade for over-the-air updates? I tried to get a response from the Mercedes dealer but got nothing. If you're in the UK, 3G is scheduled to switch off in 2024.

Third party update to upgrade from 3G to 4G. "UPDATE, Mercedes currently does not allow 3G equipped vehicles to re-subscribe to services in the Mercedes ME app even if a 4G module is installed, so we have paused the installation of these updates until we find out if there is a mechanism to resolve this issue. 3G-enabled cars have reverted to the 2G/EDGE standard, which doesn't provide enough bandwidth for most modern services, even if you still have an active subscription."
So I wanted to ask the forum experts if they knew the part number for the 4G unit so I could get a quote and see if it was worth replacing the unit and then see if MB Europe would upgrade the unit as part of the Service (depending on the cost of the module of...
As far as I know, Mercedes has stopped booking remote packages for vehicles converted from 3G to 4G/LTE from March 1, 2024.
This means that you can still upgrade to 4G/LTE (for example, to access real-time features and better network coverage) and existing booked packages will continue to be valid, but it is no longer possible to book a new one.

This might be a cheaper option than the £800-£1000 quoted prices.

To complete the update question.

You must already have a HERMES, CODE 360 or EY3 model (check data card). This should be valid for all cars after MY2016.
If you have a car manufactured before 2016 or later with CODE 350 or J49, the update/upgrade is NOT POSSIBLE.

The HERMES model you need has the part number A2229004519 or A2229004619, depending on the model with USB (with green connector) or with WLAN (without green connector).

If you want to take a used module, you need to reset it (make it virgin), which is not possible with XENTRY. Also you need to update the software on the module depending on the firmware installed.

After installation you need to do ONLINE SCN coding via dealer to register new module. The entry in data card will be changed to CODE 362.

Some Mercedes dealers and workshops, at least in Germany, offer the upgrade for around 600-700 euros.

Have you read and understood the text?
Mercedes has stopped selling its "Remote Services" package for cars not equipped with 4G from the factory. It doesn't matter who is doing the 4G update or if it is being done at all.
For other services this should work.
This irritates me and is why I will never buy a car again from a manufacturer that does this on purpose, without an obvious reason. It will happen again when NTG 5.5 with LTE becomes obsolete, and again with MBUX, and again.

Mercedes used to be a car you could buy, get parts, manuals and even SW diagnostic tools, but now they are deliberately reducing the lifespan and therefore the market value of used cars. So sad.

Oh yeah, that's new information for me. My dealer told me he can update and activate the module. He didn't tell me that the "Premium Package" still doesn't include all the features since my car is no longer assigned to him.
