I recently drove my F11 525D with N57 engine (150 kW) to get groceries and checked the oil level on the CIC before the trip and found that the oil level was too high. I have never had this problem before. What could be the cause?

The problem is probably in the DPF regeneration. It probably started too late and was not completed, or the injectors are letting too much fuel through.

Your car probably has a dipstick on the engine since it's an N57 and F1x chassis, check that too. As a BMW mechanic I've seen LIN bus failures that say the CIC is full but it's actually fine, check that first. If the level is really too high, check with ISTA or any powerful enough OBD scanner the regeneration status of this DPF. If everything is OK, then it is probably an injector fault, which I think is quite rare.

Check the coolant too! It is possible that coolant is being lost or mixed with the oil in the cylinder head. This is a fairly common problem on older BMW inline 6 engines.

What DTC error is found in your ECU?

Also, if you drive a lot in the surrounding area, the DPF does not regenerate properly and the oil level rises. Check the oil level with the dipstick. If it is above the maximum, drain some oil and the indicator will go out. Had the same problem, this solved the problem.

I don't think this is good advice. Motor oil diluted with diesel fuel does not lubricate well. It is best to change the oil.
