C216/W221 Replacing the Pulsation Damper

Does anyone have experience replacing the ABC pump pulsation damper in a V8 (M 273.961)? Is it possible to do this without removing the pump from the car? Do I need to relieve pressure in the system? Any advice or working instructions would be greatly appreciated.

In the CL600 W216 model it is accessed from above. Remove the left air filter housing, then unscrew the 17th screw and screw in a new one. Clean the damper with brake cleaner. Make sure the oil stays clean.

On the CL500 you don't need to remove the pump to replace it, you just need to unscrew the top bolt (ideally both) on the front of the pump and move it a few mm to the side to make room for the replacement.
