I recently noticed my SL600 was bouncing around a lot. After searching online, I concluded that there was a 90% chance the rear hydraulic accumulator was faulty. However, the ADS2 system really intrigued me, as I'm trying to understand how this suspension works.

I'm a complete newbie to hydraulic suspensions, but as far as I understand, traditional shock absorbers work by using a piston that moves up and down (through holes inside the shock absorber) to create a smooth ride. The ADS2 uses an accumulator that acts like a wet battery, smoothing out the ride as the car moves. According to the ADS2 document I found, both sides of the shock absorber in the ADS2 system are filled with fluid.

Now I have some doubts. Maybe this is why the car will bounce if the accumulator is broken? Because then the shock absorber piston will move freely without resistance? Does this mean that the shock absorber in the ADS2 is only used to adjust the height of the vehicle and for nothing else in terms of functionality?
Also, is there a way to test the accumulators without removing them? One video mentioned it was possible, but didn't show how. Is this even possible?

Thank you in advance, any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated.

VIN? If this part fails, it will jump. If the diaphragm is punctured, the oil level in the tank will drop.

VIN: WDBFA76F5YF190963. The previous owner changed the hydraulic fluid before selling it, so the fluid level probably doesn't matter in my case.

These parts are usually replaced in pairs. If you want to determine which one is faulty, measure the oil level in both and compare. The car rocks after driving off an obstacle.
