So one morning when starting the car, a "Component Protection" warning appeared on the center screen. Can't change volume, can't see navigation maps (stuck in boot loop), almost all the buttons on the center control don't work anymore.
I went to the garage and they said that the batteries were dead, so we changed both batteries, then we had to do an update and apparently they had a stock module (the anti-theft is turned on on the head unit).
I then went directly to BMW and they looked and charged me with changing the radio and then confirmed that it was the same VIN that was on when I bought the car. They then told me that they needed a specific code from BMW Canada of Germany, so I left my car there and came back the next day only to be told that the head unit needed to be replaced. And told me about 6-7 thousand Canadian dollars.
Has anyone had a similar problem with a BMW and is there anything that can be done about it?
