I have a 2012 MB E 220, 170 hp, with Bi-Xenon and ILS headlights.
I wanted to update my headlights, so I ordered an LED light bar online. The shop told me that installing a CAN bus device to make the LEDs work without problems on this car would be a breeze. After it arrived in the mail, I started assembling it, and then my friend came in. He told me that having such a device in the new lighting was a necessity.
Can someone explain this to me so I can proceed with the installation?

There is also a Bluetooth OBD dongle which helps. It reads the CAN and controls the LED panel relay. Probably the easiest thing is that you don't have to mess with the CAN bus wiring.

Thank you very much. I just ordered.

If your light bar is designed for the W212, it should have its own CAN bus. Otherwise, simply connect it the old-fashioned way to a 12V power source and install a switch somewhere inside. This should work fine, even if it's not the "correct" way to do it.
