Hello everyone, this is my first post and I'm new to this. I have a restyled Mercedes W246 model, and in the future I want to buy something for diagnostics. What is the best diagnostic tool for home use? I think I need an ODB2 connector and I would like to connect to a mobile App to read diagnostic codes.

You need to find the Xentry PassThru image and you need some kind of J2534 interface, there are many offers for it on the Internet.

I also have a restyled W246 and I use a C4 from China. It helps me, but it's expensive. An alternative is to use Openport 2 with Xentry PassThru. You can read more on this forum.

Aha I see, but there are "professional" tools and, as Wasser00 wrote, they are expensive. I thought about a simple ODB2 adapter connecting to the Android App and reading the code if possible.

There are plenty of cheap J2534 interfaces out there, and if you have a spare laptop and some knowledge, you can put together a suitable system for a few dollars more than an Android OBD adapter.

Scanmatik or Openport interface, everything else needed for the interface can be found on the forum.

Just buy a cheap Openport from China, about 30 euros and install XENTRY PassThru, it's the best way.

If you want to be mobile and use the App, you can buy an ELM327 OBD2 dongle with Bluetooth or WiFi connectivity. This dongle works with many iOS and Android Apps and is useful for quickly scanning, clearing fault codes and learning some vehicle parameters. I use it to quickly find trouble codes and clear them if I'm on the road and not at home using professional diagnostic software.
