Diagnostic Tool and Software for Nissan

Can anyone recommend a tool (like Openport 2.0 or Ross-Tech HEX-USB) and software to diagnose the engine of an old Nissan Terrano II 2004 3.0 TD?
I am not familiar with Nissan at all.
Is it possible to use Renault diagnostic software for Nissan since Nissan is now owned by Renault?
Any advice on the topic would be greatly appreciated.

If you need official software, then choose Nissan Consult III. You can also perform simple operations using OBDLink LX or MX (Bluetooth OBD2 scanner) or other OBD2 scanners.

I've tried using Tactrix (original) Openport with several versions of Consult, but I've never been able to get it to work. Someone recommended Scanmatik to me, but I think VNCI, since it connects directly, might definitely be a good option.
