Mercedes 2003 and newer have a fuel tank that is divided into 2 parts, under the rear seat, on one side is the fuel pump, and on the other is the level sensor. They are connected by wires and hoses to the sensors and the level balancer. The early use of wires as plastic coverings easily resulted in the insulation being damaged by old gas or bad additives in the tank, creating the risk of fire or simply loss of communication. The same additives or old low-quality gasoline damage the 2 transparent plastic hoses, which leads to incorrect readings of the fuel level in the tank or complete failure of the fuel system. Easy to fix by replacing the entire system or just the damaged part. Remember that all work on the fuel tank is very dangerous. It is recommended to work with a full tank of gasoline (this will reduce the amount of vapors that can easily ignite).
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery (and the auxiliary cable if any), remove static electricity from your hands by touching the metal frame!
2. Remove the rear seat cover.
3. Open the sealed lid using a special tool.
4. Replace and install a new rubber sealing ring in time.
5. Disconnect the wire connectors and disconnect the hoses.
6. Remove the parts and check the condition of the wires and hoses.
7. Replace the damaged part or the entire kit.
8. Restore the connection of wires and hoses.
Always have a helper nearby, a fire extinguisher handy and be careful. Static electricity can ignite the fumes. Use a cotton pad, not plastic, keep all car doors and windows open, put away your mobile phone!
