I do a lot of TDI work, I have two 2013 Jettas. Does anyone know if this supports automatic VIN detection offline?

Yes, the VIN number is recognized automatically.
It happens that the car has problems, but this happens sporadically.

I thought the offline switch will allow to remove remove the component protection.
Is there another way to remove the component protection from a VW car radio?
One person told me that this can be done without an online account.

There are different ways to unprotect components from MIB unit offline. Write me what version you have and I will help you to unlock it offline.

I have a Mongoose J2534 clone that can be updated via the official Mongoose website. Will it work with ODIS and if so, is there a specific setup guide?

As far as I know there is no manual for VCI. Install the drivers and go to "Extras/Diagnostic interface", run the test and accept it if recognized. ODIS is very picky about VCIs, many of them don't work unless there is a patch for them.

I installed ODIS-E 18.2.0 and during installation I selected "Passthru". After the first launch of ODIS-E, it immediately showed the Mongoose Pro JLR, even without any action. I installed the drivers for this cable and used it with Techstream for my Toyota, so I guess it picked it up automatically even though it's a J2534 cable. Although I haven't tested it on a car yet (I need to find one first), that will be the final test.

If you have a version that can be patched, then yes, look for a solution on the Internet.

Are you sure? Everywhere I look it says that you need an online service (Geko etc.) to disable CP.
Update to my post above since I can't edit it, I tested the referenced cable with a car today and it works!

If you want to remove CP for 5F, it's easy. If you want to remove CP for other modules, ODIS or Abrites (or other programmers) will do the job. Even modules taken from other cars, CP can be removed.

Try Abrites or buy access to the Geko server for an hour. It is preferable that the items are new or used. They cannot be stolen. The server checks these items.

They can be stolen. If only 5F radio or virtual cockpit is stolen, the CP can be removed on another car. If the entire vehicle was stolen and its parts were sold, then it is impossible to remove the CP from the sold parts. My customer wanted to remove CP on Audi A3 8V ACC module. I couldn't remove CP, I thought there was a problem with ODIS server. However, later that day, the police arrived. They wanted to investigate everything. My client had an invoice so I had proof that the car company sold it as a non-stolen ACC module. Luckily, the police were focused on that garage and not on me.
