I'm new here and it's great to have so many smart people around!

I'm currently learning how to use DTS Monaco 8.16 and 9.02, can someone explain what SMR-D and CBF files are? And what are they used for? I want to learn the basics of software and move on.
Also if any of you have any tutorials, videos, PDFs on using DTS Monaco it would be really helpful if you could send them.
Hope this helps all the new people in DTS Monaco.

Both files are used by DTS Monaco to work in Workspace. CBF files are older than SMR-D, and the latter is better. If I'm not mistaken, DTS Monaco 9 does not work with CBF files.

Thanks for the reply!
So do the SMR-D and CBF files contain specific coding data for a specific vehicle, for example a W205, or do they simply provide access to various modules in that vehicle to perform coding/programming?

The file information is related to specific ECUs. Some cars share the same ECU, in which case they will use the same file.

I see. If I give you an example, I can understand the difference between SMR-D/CBF and SCN coding.
For example, I want to code a new virgin transmission module on a W205 because the old one is broken and I can't read data from it. Can I still use DTS Monaco to code a new module using the latest SMR-D file or will I need to use SCN online coding?

If you installed a new module, you will have to update it, that is, reflash it. Flash files are called SMR-F or CFF and are assigned to a module. But if you haven't saved the variant coding, you'll need the SCN coding. Honestly, be very careful and if possible find a programmer who has done something similar before.

As far as I know, if you want to code a new virgin gearbox module on a W205, you can only do it with SCN online. The gearbox is part of the Immo system.

I assume that all modules included in the Immo system will require online SCN coding. But let's say a module that is not part of the immobilizer system, like the front SAM module, can it be coded via DTS Monaco using SMR-D files?

Ok, I got it, one more question. If a module is not working or hangs, is it possible to extract the coding data from that module? Is it possible to use DTS Monaco to code a used module after extracting the coding data from a faulty module?
To code a used module, will you always need to get the coding data from the module already installed in the car, or will the SMR-D files on the DTS Monaco contain the necessary data to code it?

Also, as you mentioned, is the variant coding per module or per vehicle?
I really appreciate your reply!

A used module installed in a vehicle already has a variant coding corresponding to the vehicle and differing depending on the type of vehicle and its configuration. Some users release AED files, but it is highly doubtful that they will fit your car exactly. The SMR-D file always receives the standard codings corresponding to the module.

I'm relatively new to DTS Monaco 8.16 and Vediamo 4.2.2 and was wondering if any of you create your own workspace in DTS Monaco or do you use the existing workspaces for each car model?
