Reanult Laguna 3 dci Hatch 2011 model Electronic Parking Brake does not ENGAGE... hence no handbrake
=

Can anyone please advise, today my Renault Laguna 3 dci 2011 hatch keeps showing "CHECK PARKING BRAKE" and the brakes will not engage at all, have to leave it in gear and put bricks under the wheels.

The RED P circle on the DASH KEEPS FLASHING and so does the RED light on the Brake switch.

When i open the driver door it flashes red "APPLY HAND BRAKE"

Any help would be appreciated, i have some tools and a FULL can-clip

Thank you in advance

Good evening, I have a technical note regarding: Light on: parking brake message to check.

POSSIBLE CAUSE:
Clutch pedal travel sensor incorrectly positioned.

DIAGNOSTIC :

Confirm the customer effect and if it is confirmed, check if the clutch pedal axle has not come out of the sensor housing (yellow part) (see attachment).

APV SOLUTION:

Replace the clutch pedal axle in the sensor housing (yellow part).

SERIES EVOLUTION:

Standard Operation Sheet (factory assembly) has been modified in order to integrate control of the positioning of the rod in the sensor since 01/14/2014.

Here is an electrical diagram of the parking brake to be able to check the power supplies before possible replacement.
I already had a case where a power wire was cut on the parking brake socket.

Hi Christiano, and many thanks for your reply and Help.

Were can i find the "Clutch pedal travel sensor incorrectly positioned." in the car? is it under the drivers seat or in the engine bay?

Also i am still not sure why the EPB will not engage, i can hear the motor in the EPB module winding but it is not gripping the wheels hence the car just rolls unless i use the foot brake or leave it switched off in 1st gear.

Hello, it is located on the clutch pedal, see photo. If you hear the parking brake motor working and it is not pulling on the brake cables, the problem is with the parking brake.

Hi and thanks for your help and advise,

if the Electronic Parking Brake is at fault what could be the possible cause? that would cause the dash "P" to flash and the brake button light to flash at the same time?

The "P" on the dash sometimes does not even show at all.

Question, by any chance did the problem occur after replacing the rear brake pads?

Question, by any chance did the problem occur after replacing the rear brake pads?

Hi, NO i just went to the shops when i left the store, i took off without pressing the E brake handle with the red light behind the manual gear, this should have AUTO released the EPB and that is when message appeared and started to get that message "CHECK PARKING BRAKE, at that time both RED STOP and YELLOW Spanner showed on dash and the car started "limping" low revs. it said "STOP ENGINE FAULT".

i got home switched engine off, then restarted the car, it started to rev normally and has been ever since, it has something to do with either the EPB fuse, or the actuator motor inside the EPB module. or maybe the ECU module sensed something and auto put it into limp mode.

There was a BAD smell coming from the front engine bay area, like fluid burning and this smell also was noticed when i turned on the climate control AIR coming through the vents, BUT have since disappeared and the car is working fine BUT no ELECTRONIC hand brake engaging.

If i could just be pointed in the right direction on what the cause could be i can get started, but now i have no idea

Thanks for any help and advise!
