I need a J2534 interface that supports XENTRY PassThru reasonably well, within a £20-£50 budget.
So far my search/recommendations have led me to the Tactrix Openport 2.0 interface (original price £180). However, I'm initially interested in trying out more budget alternatives.
The car is a 2009 W207 E350.

Scanmatik 2 is without a doubt the leader. We had very bad experiences with VAS and the original XPT (XENTRY Pass Thru).

Another vote here for Tactrix Openport 2.0, the original product is reasonably priced and has worked great for me when programming several Toyota/Lexus vehicles. They also have a decent support forum.

I have a cheap Openport 2 that I ordered. I thought I'd give it a try to start learning some simple stuff. If it works out I'll let you know.

Yes of course, even in case of Chinese clone, just choose the right Scanmatik Passthru driver and you are ready to work with Xentry, in fact, SM2Pro is the only device that reads 50 modules in Xentry.
I even tried it on a 24V Actros truck and it held up, so it really is a XENTRY PassThru champion.

Thanks for the advice! Maybe I should buy one too. Do you have any recommendations on where to get a clone or an original?

SM2Pro clone is available on eBay for about $50, if it doesn't work just ask for refund on eBay. I will order one to test.

Another vote for the Chinese clone Tactrix Openport 2.0 from a very famous Chinese site.
My friends and I use them with DTS Monaco to connect our cars.
I paid 22 euros for it. Now 15.

I also use a Tactrix Openport 2.0 clone with DTS Monaco for coding. I got it for $10.

Kroticker, can you tell me what bad experience you had with VAS?
I use VAS 5054A from time to time. So far I can't complain.

What is the firmware version?
2.21.21 or 2.21.22?
